Description
Food transcends all communities and knows no bounds, yet when it comes to food access BIPOC communities are increasingly vulnerable to the lack of nutritious, locally sourced, socially just food.
What has become a web series during the pandemic, the Food is Life series, now comes to you in the form of a panel with Black community leaders who will speak to the impact that food has on Black communities and the need to do better to address systemic racism within our food systems.
Speakers Walied Khogali, Michelle Lewis and Crystal Mark will share their thoughts, expertise and lived experiences to raise awareness and funds, to support Black post-secondary students to access fresh produce this summer.
With host Farheen Khan, Executive Director of Meal Exchange, this is sure to be an exceptional evening of inspiration and the pulling of heart strings. We encourage you to attend, watch while eating a meal, and if you are able to, donate to support Black student food access. We've partnered with Black Creek Community Farm and York United Black Students' Alliance to delivery fresh food boxes to Black students in Toronto this summer. A weekly box of fresh produce for a student is on average $20 and it goes a long way to support students!
Invite others to join in- share our Facebook Event Page! This event will also be streamed on Facebook Live if you are not able to access on Zoom.
