Members-Only Reception 5:30PM - 6:00PM, Public Program 6:00PM-7:30PM
Event Description:
In a recent congressional hearing on Russian cyber-attacks, the Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats drew an explicit comparison to the situation before the 9/11 terrorist attacks—“The warning lights are blinking red again." Should cyber attacks be considered existential when virtually everything we rely on — whether computers, phones, transportation, electrical power grids, water supplies or global navigation and communications satellites — is interconnected in cyberspace? And is the United States prepared for the next cyberattack? Can it ever be?
Join the World Affairs Council and New York Times National Security Correspondent David E. Sanger for a conversation on how the United States must adapt in this new era of constant sabotage, misinformation, and fear. Tom Burt, Microsoft's Head of Customer Security and Trust, will moderate the conversation.
Announcing a new monthly networking reception:
This event will feature a members-only networking reception in advance of the public program – giving members more opportunity to connect with one another, share their perspectives on the upcoming discussion, and broaden their global network in Seattle. Please join other Council members, board, and staff for wine, conversation, and an enjoyable opportunity to raise our collective "global IQ". Our speaker and moderator are expected to attend.
