Description
The British Museum of Food (BMOF) is delighted to announce its inaugural exhibition SCOOP: A Wonderful Ice Cream World. This celebratory show will explore the past, present and future of ice cream in a total sensory immersion – one where you can taste the savour of centuries.
SCOOP: A Wonderful Ice Cream World features highlights from the world’s largest collection of ice cream paraphernalia. This never-before-exhibited collection is drawn from 14,000 vintage equipment, service-ware, advertising, and music collected over 40 years by Robin and Caroline Weir. Ranging from Victorian ice cream moulds to an Andy Warhol print (Warhol was a known ice cream lover) this collection is full of discovery for all visitors.
A special feature of the exhibition will be a focus on the life of Agnes B. Marshall, known in Victorian times as the Queen of Ices. Far ahead of her time, Marshall wrote several successful cook books, patented an ice cream machine and even suggested using liquid nitrogen to make ice cream as early as the late 1800s. Half-way through the exhibition, guests will enter a re-creation of Agnes B Marshall’s Cookery School where they will get to make and taste ice cream! Visitors will also get to experience and taste glow-in-the-dark ice cream.
Opening hours:
Monday - Friday: 12:00 - 20:00 (last entry is at 19:00)
Saturday - Sunday: 10:00 - 18:00 (last entry at 17:00)
