Description
RISE Edutainment is gearing up for Black Mental Health Week in collaboration with CABR (Confronting Anti-Black Racism).
Mental health, historically, has not been a conversation topic in the afro-carribean/black community. To bring greater awareness to this topic we have partnered with the City of Toronto, Confronting Anti-black Racism to bring you, "A Conversation on the Impact of Incarceration on Mental Health, the Black Community".
Join us for a night of artistic expression that highlights the experiences of incarceration on mental health in the Black community. We will also be hosting a 1hr panel on this topic and hope to bring stories, experiences and learnings on Black mental health, journeys to healing, and ways to deal with the effects of incarceration on the black community.
Participants are encouraged to share their experiences with mental health, incarceration and its impact, ways to deal or manage along with anything you are willing to share that you feel can add to the conversation as we mark the second annual Black Mental Health Week.
Is it no secret that Mental Health is considered taboo in Afro-Carribean culture. We often learn to live and function with undiagnosed, and untreated mental health disorders such as anxiety, addiction, depression, PTSD etc, in fear of being considered or labelled as “crazy”, “mentally ill”, “an idiot” or lacking intelligence for seeking out help by our communities/families. We need to create a culturally competent world, a place that we can heal.
Join us on Thursday March 10th 2022 from 6- 8PM for a featured a panel on therapy in the black community with Dr. Andrew Thomas, Jeff A.D Martin and Jody Yaa Dunn moderated by Sydney Searchell-Simpson and performances by Glowz and J. Ivory this is an event you’re not going to want to miss!
