We invite your kids to discover the science of baking! In our week long camp students will learn both common and complex dessert recipes and the corresponding chemical reactions that make it all possible in a fun, safe, state of the art kitchen. Each of the five days, we will explore various dessert and pastry topics, focusing on ingredient variability and composition. This test kitchen style curriculum will engage students and spark interests in both science and baking.
Lead by Georgia Tech alumna, and pastry professional Kia Benion, founder of The Pastry Engineer.
Ages 8-14
Monday - Pastry 101: Laying the foundation for food science and kitchen basics. Students will test out various cooking methods of classic pastries.
Tuesday - Cookies 101: Creaming vs. melting vs. no butter at all! The fundamentals and techniques of one of their favorite sweet treats. From French macarons to American sugar cookies, students will learn how to recreate these classics.
Wednesday - Dough 101: Students will learn the components of the perfect dough in both sweet and savory application.
Thursday - Cakes 101: Technique, skill and science make the perfect cake recipe. Students will deconstruct yellow cake recipe to learn the role each ingredient plays in this delicious dessert.
Friday - Parents 101: The students will spend the first half of the day preparing a delicious meal to showcase their knowledge and skills. Please join us at 12 pm for a parent luncheon.
