Okay dreamers, get your party pants on. Neon Dreams is turning 3 years old and to celebrate we’re going to party like it’s 1983 with what might be the most crowd-pleasing film ever made.
Director Allan Arkush’s rarely seen follow-up to Rock N’ Roll High School takes us to The Saturn Theatre in L.A. as theatre director Max Wolfe (Allen Garfield) prepares a massive New Years Eve concert with the help of his stage managers (Daniel Stern and Gail Edwards). As bands start arriving, so does a smarmy concert promoter (Ed Begley Jr.) with plans to take control of the theatre, strip it of all its charm, and turn it into a soulless mega-stafdium. To say things get crazy from there would be an understatement.
If you’ve ever thought to yourself “I’d love to see a movie where Malcolm McDowell plays a Mick Jagger-esque rock star who receives a literal pep talk from his penis”, then we have got the movie for you. Featuring equally outrageous performances from Lou Reed spoofing Bob Dylan, Lee Ving (of Fear) basically playing Iggy Pop, Lori Eastside (of Kid Creole and the Coconuts), Bill Henderson, as well many other cameos we don’t want to spoil, this is guaranteed to be the most epic New Years Eve party you attend all Spring!
Barely released into theatres and never making it to DVD due to the fact that the negatives along with the entire soundtrack were lost completely, this incredibly special screening will be presented in the only way we can: in glorious 35mm. On Saturday, April 14 prepare yourselves to GET CRAZY!!
--This screening and others are made possible thanks to our wonderful sponsor Hollywood Suite. As always this will be a fully licensed event featuring a fabulous on-screen pre-show. Be sure to arrive early!
