Create your own natural, plant-based dyes and take home your own project. The art of natural dyeing using colors derived from plants and minerals is a practice that has brought color to our world since the Stone Age.Today, choosing natural dyes over the chemical alternatives is more important than ever. Much of our clothing is dyed with synthetic chemicals like sulphur, nitrates, and heavy metals like copper, mercury, and lead. The widespread use of these dyes contributes to many environmental and health impacts including polluted watersheds, unsafe drinking water, wildlife extinction, and human respitory and skin problems.Natural dyeing is a sustainable practice and its process and products are gentle to our environment and own health. Join us for a lecture and hands-on introductory workshop on natural and local plant dyes.In this workshop we will:Learn about history and future of natural dyes
Discover a few commonly found and grown dye plants found in Southern California
Process plants for natural dyeing
Complete a natural dye project from start to finish
