Description
Big Sand Presents: Music Games & Tech - a free social mixer for musicians and creatives. This event is also the Adelaide premiere of the short documentary 'Chasing the Horizon: Creating the Big Sand Live Show', which was filmed in The Void at Flinders University and The Lab at ILA.TLDR: Free event, drinks from APRA AMCOS, watch a mini doco, meet people, hear from cool musicians working with games & tech.
What's Planned:
You’ll hear from three musicians talking casually about their creative projects, and have the chance to ask questions. The bar will be open throughout the evening (with drinks sponsored by APRA AMCOS! Thanks APRA AMCOS!) and you’ll have plenty of time to meet other interesting people and share your own work.
You'll Hear From:
Sally Coleman: This event is the Sydney premiere of the short documentary 'Chasing the Horizon: Creating the Big Sand Live Show'. The 20min film explores the development and broader industry opportunities of using game engines & motion capture for a live music performance, and was supported by the APRA AMCOS x Creative Australia Digital Futures Initiative.
The documentary was directed by Tim Cheeseman and scored by Bonnie Green, and documents Sally’s journey from triple j Breakfast presenter & musician to creative technologist & PhD researcher as she creates a live gig in a game engine, as well as interviews with motion capture performers and virtual event producers across Australia.
Dr Sam Whiting, Dr Susannah Emery and John Oestmann: This creative game audio team from the University of South Australia are the latest recipients of the Creative Australia x APRA AMCOS Digital Futures Initiative, for their work around musical automation in game audio. Between them, they've organised Adelaide's Global Game Jam, scored the indie game 'Rooftop Renegades' which won an Indie Showcase slot at PAX, and published books about live music and venues.
Their current project is a video game in which all audio is generated live, from scratch, by a human-designed digital synthesis system. They'll be talking about this process, as well as the opportunities and anxieties around AI in game music.
Dave Court: Dave is an artist whose work includes large-scale public artwork, cross media work and the creation of interactive and immersive events and installations. He’ll be talking about the process of creating ‘Coalesce’; a collaborative audiovisual project with musician Motez that blurs the lines between physical and digital objects. It's a 7 track EP that takes place in a "hypercube" with each side, including the centre, representing a song with a distinct tone and visual identity.
With thanks to the SA Music Development Office, ILA and APRA AMCOS.The event is free, but spaces are limited, so please RSVP early to avoid missing out.
