Come along with us on a three-day rail journey from St. Louis to the riverfront towns of Hermann and Jefferson City and take in the beautiful countryside that can only be seen by riding Amtrak’s Missouri River Runner. You will tour special locations hand-picked by Missouri Life. Come and enjoy an insider’s perspective on places you will visit. Tuesday
Board the Missouri River Runner in Kirkwood at 9:44 AM. Arrive in Jefferson City at 11:40 AM. At 3 PM, take a one-hour guided tour of the State Capitol. Afterwards you will have time to enjoy the exhibits at the State Museum inside the Capitol. (There is a lot of walking, but the State Capitol is handicap accessible) Dinner at Madison’s Cafe at 5:30 PM (Transportation while in Jefferson City is limited to a school bus)
Wednesday
After breakfast begin the day with a 10 AM tour of the Governor’s Mansion and the adjoining gardens. An optional visit to Jefferson Landing and the old Union Hotel, which hosts the Elizabeth Rozier Gallery, will also be available. Everyone will board the train at 11:15 AM, with arrival at Hermann at 12:05 PM. A tour of Stone Hill Winery’s historic wine cellars will begin at 3:30 PM followed by a wine tasting of six specialty wines. (There are steps going down to the cellar - seating available if tour is not taken.) Dinner at the Stone Hill Vintage Restaurant following the wine tasting.
Thursday
Optional tour of the Historic Hermann Museum in the morning with an optional stroll around Hermann. Leaving with plenty of memories, you board the train at 12 PM and arrive in Kirkwood at 1:15 PM.
