Middlesex Centre can be described as a municipality striving to become environmentally sustainable with less carbon foot print. The Komoka Wellness & Recreation Complex situated at 1 Turks Lane is the flagship of sustainability in the municipality. This impressive facility comprises of two NHL-sized ice rinks with six change rooms each and a 750 and 250 seat capacity. The facility also contains a fitness centre with an indoor walking track and gymnasium. With a GREEN Globe Certification (i.e. a LEED Platinum equivalent) the Komoka Wellness & Recreation Complex stands as a beacon of sustainability.
A 250KW solar panel installation on the roof-top of the recreation complex, off-set appx a quarter (440,400kWh) of the energy needs of the facility with renewal energy. The Green Globe Level 4 sustainability certification of the complex implies that there is improved indoor air quality for all patrons, less water and energy consumption and reduced greenhouse gases emission. In short, the overall environmental impact of the property is low thereby contributing to provincial and global targets of reducing GHG[1] that causes climate change.
The parking lot equipped with LED lights also have a 2 EV charging stations which is accessible to all environmentally-minded patrons who uses electric cars.
