DXMasterTalk SeriesMaking a Scene: Design for TheatreMonday, May 9, 2016 @ DXJoin us on Monday, May 9, for Making a Scene: Design for Theatre, a behind-the-scenes tell-all panel discussion with international theatre design gurus Michael Levine, Alexander MacSween, Daniel Brooks, and Michael Walton. Sarah Stanley, Associate Artistic Director of English Theatre at Canada's National Arts Centre, moderates a talk that shines a spotlight on set design and live theatre production.Learn how production plays a pivotal role in creating new worlds for actors and audiences. Discover what goes into the creation, design and building process of landscapes that come to life and how production crews deal with the technical and spur-of-the-moment realities of live action performance.Michael Levine has worked internationally as a set and costume designer for the past 30 years. His designs have been seen on dozens of international stages including La Scala Milan, The Paris Opera, and the National Ballet of Canada.Alexander MacSween is a musician-composer who has worked with Marie Brassard, François Girard, and Robert Lepage. His work is characterised by the use of music to shape space and time and by an interest in how sound functions in the fusion of design elements.Daniel Brooks is an associate teaching artist at Soulpepper Theatre and has written and directed many productions including Insomnia and The Eco Show. Michael Walton, based in Stratford, Ontario, is a lighting designer and special effects maestro who works extensively across Canada and the U.S. to illuminate productions.The DXMasterTalk series invites renowned creative leaders from all disciplines to speak about their work, collaborations, creative processes, and inspirations. This is an opportunity for the design community, design-savvy public, culture seekers and students to learn about how these individuals became the masters of their crafts and beyond.
