Description
Level: Beginner
Learn to safely use HNL Tool Library's CO2 Laser Cutter to cut and engrave wood while making a set of Hawaiian-themed earrings. Choose from either a monstera leaf design, a palm tree design, a pineapple design, or a honu (turtle) design. Besides creating a pair, you'll also be able to choose a second pair of pre-cut earrings to take home.
In this class, you'll learn how to load an existing earring file for cutting and engraving. Due to time constraints, some earrings will be cut in advance so they're available to take home at the end of class.
To prepare for the orientation, please watch this 7-minute video before you arrive: Full Spectrum Laser 101: Vector vs Raster. It covers one of the most important (and potentially confusing) aspects of laser cutting versus laser engraving. It is also recommended that you do some of your own research on CO2 Laser Cutting Machines in advance and come with any questions you think of in order to get the most out of this class.
What You’ll Experience:
You'll learn to connect to the laser, load files into RetinaEngrave, adjust power and speed settings, and perform test cuts and engravings. Once that's done, you'll watch as a solid, blank piece of birch wood is transformed into a set of earrings with plenty of time for questions during the process.
Skills You’ll Develop:
Booting up the laser system
Powering on fans and pumps
Focusing the laser head
Adjusting power, speed, raster, and vector settings
Performing test cuts
Tools Used:
Full Spectrum Laser Muse Core CO2 Desktop Laser Cutter/Engraver
RetinaEngrave 3.0 Software
