Description
Moving from fossil fuel and nuclear to a Renewable Energy home demands all kinds of changes, big and small. None of them are sacrifices, though. By starting with investments in insulation, weather-stripping, blinds and then doors and windows, we’ve shaved our consumption.
By replacing appliances with efficient ones, we’ve achieved better performance, quieter operations, less detergent (dishwasher, clothes washer), by hanging clothes most of the time we extend the life of the clothes and the dryer. By switching to an on-demand water heater, we get as much hot water as we need, but don’t have a tank full of hot water in the basement, all the time.
Then there’s the solar panels. Our 19-panel Micro-FIT project generates as much electricity as we use over the course of the year. Check out the unique “awning” type of wall installation, for homes with limited roof but a west-facing wall. And then there’s our EV: It’s a cargo bike! Sure, we’ve got a gas-powered car. But we only use it when we can’t walk, bike or take transit.
