Description
THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. Join us for an inspiring morning talk with Zita Cobb, the founder and innkeeper of the Fogo Island Inn which has shaken up the world of travel and hospitality since it opened just two years ago on the northeast coast of Newfoundland.Designed by Canadian architect Todd Saunders, the Inn won the Greatest Innnovation/Disruption Prize at LE Miami and is one of Architectural Digest’s Ten Most Daring New Buildings Around the World. The Inn is a project of the Zita Cobb’s Shorefast Foundation that uses financial, social and sacred capital to restore small communities to life. So all surpluses from the inn’s operations are re-invested in the Fogo Island community. In fact, the Inn is so daring and different that it’s only one of two Canadian properties to be founding members of National Geographic’s Unique Lodges of the World Collection. The Inn’s furniture is made by local craftspeople and is now sold globally through KLAUS by Nienkamper. The Inn’s dining room is hailed as one of Canada’s Top 10 new restaurants and its chef, Murray McDonald, has brought the phrase “Newfoundland cuisine” to the lips of foodies the world over. Please join us to hear Zita Cobb’s remarkable story of the creation and design of the Fogo Island Inn. Light breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. Zita Cobb will speak promptly at 9 a.m.Admission: FREE for DX Members$20+HST for general admission (Processing fees extra.)Locations:Design Exchange, 234 Bay St., Toronto
