Description
Gregory Hoskins' career has spanned 25 years, eight albums, and recording contracts in Canada, the U.S., Germany, and Asia. Critically lauded since the release of Moon Come Up (True North/Sony) in 1991, he has flown faithfully and agilely under the radar. In addition to collaborations with Toronto's renowned Art of Time Ensemble (most recently in 2014's The Poem/The Song with Margaret Atwood), he has worked to develop and facilitate a creation process with First Nations artists and collaborated with incarcerated women as part of "Why The Caged Bird Sings", a collection of songs written and recorded in prisons. His latest recording, The Map of Above, The Map of Below, was released in August, 2013. “On his marvelous new album...lyrics are real and bittersweet, arrangements are nimble, and the overall effect evokes a rum-based half dream involving Paul Simon, Joe Henry and truth.” (Brad Wheeler, The Globe and Mail). In 2015, he appeared as the feature vocalist on 11 tracks of Quiet Industry, the newest recording from Toronto's cult faves The Henrys. "...the alliance of his high, tremulous vocals and the strangeness of the band's instrumentation and playing is nothing less than a revelation." (Ian Keary,fROOTS)
