Dr. Donald Kalsched discusses the loss of soul in relational trauma occurring in early development and the process of its recovery. Often, this lost soul appears to us in dreams as an orphaned child. The process of the recovery of this image often leads through an enounter with powerful defenses that have been erected, originally to protect the child in the traumatic situation.
