The Wetlab volunteer experience is designed to help Wetlab staff maintain the Wetlab which includes the aquariums and educational areas. The Wetlab itself is a flow-through aquarium system that houses a living collection of fishes and invertebrates that are native to the Hudson River Estuary and New York Harbor. The Wetlab volunteer experience will give volunteers the opportunity to participate in a variety of Wetlab duties which include, but are not limited to: Tank preparation/maintenance: building habitat for fish and invertebrates (using native eelgrass, wood and pipes), cleaning aquarium tanks, and decorations for aquarium; Spring cleaning: light and general cleaning of the Wetlab; Maintaining outdoor oyster populations: checking health of oyster population and collecting data when needed; Checking traps: assisting staff members with checking traps and bringing any animals back to lab to house temporarily.
Please bring snacks and water. Volunteers might get muddy so please dress accordingly.
