**************************************************10 years ago your hirsute hosts The Have Yachts DJs embarked on
their first smooth voyage, launching Club Yacht Rock for the first time
on a ramshackle boat moored on the south side of the River Thames.
Little did our nautical heroes know those
few precious hours spinning the near-forgotten hits of Steely Dan,
Michael McDonald, Toto and Hall & Oates would launch a new clubbing
sensation. A tidal wave of joy that would see Club Yacht Rock bring
smooth AOR sounds to countless venues and parties all over London and
the UK, even DJing to a thousand revellers at Glastonbury Festival's
Stonebridge Bar and somehow enjoying a Top10 album 'Yacht Rock' with its
own tv ad in 2014!
It's been a heady decade. The Have Yacht
DJs (Capt. Sea Salt Scoot, Steely Dan Gilson, The Chris Bourne Identity,
John 'Oates' Talbot and T Bone Gibbs) are little older, wiser, blearier
of eye and thicker around the middle. But damn, they're still smooth
as hell and ready to don Hawaiian shirts, nautical caps and sail us
straight to Yacht Rock heaven. All day long and all night strong.
Since that first night in 2007 it's been
incredible to hear the records we thought we'd never hear in a
nightclub, like Toto's 'Rosanna' and Fleetwood Mac's 'Everywhere'
suddenly cropping up, not only in the bars and dancing hot spots, but in
popular culture generally. We're not taking all the credit, but isn't
it a small coincidence that the likes of The Mac, ELO and Steely Dan are
back playing in the stadiums? Where they belong... Just sayin'...
But like an exquisite Pina Colada sipped swaying in a hammock, in front of a tropical island sunset - it cannot last forever. The times
are changing. Yacht Rock is back and bigger than it was when we started
our little club all those years ago, but it's time for your hosts to
take a bow and depart for sunnier climes and calmer lifestyles.
That's why for our 10th Anniversary we invite you to our last ever Club Yacht Rock.
Friday 27th October at our spiritual
home, The Social, 5 Little Portland St. 8pm til late. Entry is free
but limited, so be sure to sign up for your tickets here.
