This course extensively reviews the major nerve pathways of the upper extremity, including common nerve entrapment sites, reviews basic neural assessment tests, and provides palpatory practice to locate the nerve pathways on self and each other. Participants will also learn and practice effective soft-tissue interventions to help alleviate these conditions.
75% of the course consists of supervised hands-on practice.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the common mechanisms of nerve injuries.
2. Identify the brachial plexus complex
3. Delineate the pathways of the median, ulnar, and radial nerves through the upper extremity.
4. List the major entrapment sites for the median, ulnar and radial nerves of the upper extremity.
5. Demonstrate typical nerve assessment tests.
6. Discuss and demonstrate simple nerve glide maneuvers.
7. Discuss and demonstrate practical treatment interventions for massage therapists.
Please dress to be able to expose the shoulder girdle and arms (tank top, bikini top, etc.) for the practical portion of the class.
