Each meal kit comes decorated with traditional Duwamish art motifs, fresh cedar and includes a Thanksgiving blessing. They can be picked up at the Duwamish Longhouse (4705 W Marginal Way SW, Seattle, WA 98106) to experience more of the Duwamish history, as well as meet community members. 100% of the proceeds from this event will support the Duwamish Tribe, and for every meal kit sold, one meal will be donated to a community member in need.
The Duwamish Tribe is the host tribe for Seattle, our area’s only indigenous tribe. Many of their enrolled members still live on Duwamish aboriginal territory, which includes Seattle, Burien, Tukwila, Renton, and Redmond. This Giving Thanks event has a history dating back to 1988, when a Declaration of Apology was issued by the Church Council of Greater Seattle and Washington to First Nation peoples for denying them their spiritual paradigm. In honor of that apology, a special Thanksgiving feast was held in Seattle between Native and non-Native peoples hosted by David Lee (Founder of FoodCircle). While we have had in-person feasts in the past, this year’s COVID-19 pandemic makes that impossible. We hope that you will join us in participating in this socially distanced feast, in order to share with our community in spirit what we aren’t able to share in-person.
