As our team worked on the idea for a Sober Pride dance this year, I found myself with a heavy heart resulting from the shifts in policies around LGBTQ civil rights. Increased hate crimes- especially trans kids, bathroom access denied, imprisonment of gay men in Chechnya, same-sex relationship statuses questioned and rescinded.
Our intention for Sober Pride was to support the spirit of Stonewall and to infuse Pride in resistance. The evidence shows that if we remain united then we will prevail. Recovery grows stronger when it feels safe to be sober.
Pride is a cultural tradition steeped in the joy of community and liberation. It began with a decision to stand up for ourselves AND each other.
Saturday June 17 from 7 pm-11 pm, LGBTQ Pridefest Celebration commemorates the Stonewall Riots by holding a Sober Pride Dance at Phoenix Multisport Denver 2233 Champa Street Denver, CO, 80205.
