SA Walks: Escape into the Forest

Description
Join artist Connie Tong and arborist Terence Liu for a walk along the Bluffs to learn how to identify and interpret trees in the neighbourhood and find out its specific contribution to the urban forest. The tour will be followed by a drawing activity that engages participants to sketch a portrait of tree(s) that inspires them. Rain or shine—please dress accordingly!
The local forest continues to change with the number of removals and replacement. The hope for the city as a whole is to increase the canopy to 40% by 2057. Ever since the 2013 winter ice storm and the infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer, Scarborough's local tree canopy has suffered massively, especially with ash trees, hence the demand to preserve mature trees and replant replacement trees are increasing.

Terence Liu, a graduate from the the Faculty of
Forestry at the University of Toronto, has spent his years of post
secondary education pursuing an understanding of the role of trees in
the current world. After graduating, Terence applied the knowledge that
he gathered from mentors, fellow students, and textbooks to the our
local forests in rural and urbanized areas around the GTA. This
experience left him with a greater appreciation for the trees close to
home than he had previously understood. Currently, Terence has shifted
his focus on the conservation and management of our urban forest and is
working for Urban Forestry at the City of Toronto.
