Description
This two-hour workshop will take a character-based approach to mask making. Inspired by the technique of mask-maker David Knezz, participants will be led through the planning and building their own masks based off of political figures, a community/family member, or an archetype they wish to explore using moulding clay, paper bags, newspaper, and wood glue as materials.
The purpose of this workshop is to introduce basic mask-building techniques, develop an understanding of mask archetypes in commedia dell’arte, and the use of one’s community for artistic inspiration and creation. This workshop will focus on using recycled and re-purposed materials.
Though all materials will be provided, participants are encouraged to bring clean, previously used materials that they are interested in working with.
*This is a two-part workshop. To register for the second workshop, click here.
