Description
This Tuesday, May 12th, join The Colonials and guest artist Eric Brenner for an evening of three world premieres directly inspired by great works of literature. Set in the remarkable Louis K. Meisel Gallery of photorealism, each new work will be paired with a wine chosen specifically for the evening by master sommelier Étienne Guérin. From Jessica Meyer we'll hear "Seasons of Basho", which takes the enchanting haiku of master Matsuo Basho to tell an age-old story of discovery, lust, loss, and loneliness using the unique combination of countertenor, cello, and piano. In addition, Philadelphia-based composer Marc LeMay has written a Quintet specifically for the Colonials, inspired by American poet Wallace Stevens’ “Six Significant Landscapes”. To round out the program Colonials member and artistic director Doug Balliett sets T.S. Elliot's Four Preludes for male soprano and piano trio. A program that is sure to inspire your literary side, while intoxicating your taste buds. Ms. Meyer's work was made possible by a grant from the American Composers Forum with Funds provided by the Jerome Foundation.
