Description
If you are considering an international law career, then you will be in good company at this event hosted by the Young Professionals International Network. Join us for an in-person networking event where you will meet other professionals who are either pondering or already succeeding in the international legal field. Also joining us from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory are Madalina Man and Kathleen Doty, who are both eager to share practical advice on what an international law career can look like and how to get started.
Madalina Man is a lawyer specialising in nuclear security and nonproliferation, with experience in public international law and treaty implementation. In her role as a legislative and regulatory specialist, she contributes to the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Radiological Security, International Nuclear Security, Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence, and International Nuclear Safeguards Engagement program. Her focus is the development and implementation of technical assistance, helping partner countries to improve their national legislative and regulatory frameworks for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) materials security. She also advises DOE headquarters on strategies for the universalisation and implementation of international instruments for nuclear security.
Kathleen Doty is an advisor for treaties and agreements in the Global Security, Technology, and Policy group at PNNL. She has more than 10 years of international law experience and specializes in international security governance. Prior to joining PNNL, Doty served as Director of the Dean Rusk International Law Center at the University of Georgia School of Law. Previously, she served as assistant counsel for International Law and Arms Control at the U.S. Department of the Navy, Office of the General Counsel. In that capacity, she worked on the Polaris Sales Agreement, New START, the Open Skies Treaty, and advised on Navy system and program compliance with a range of treaties including, inter alia, the Chemical Weapons Convention, the Biological Weapons Convention, and the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. She has also held staff positions with the American Society of International Law, the California International Law Center, and served as a judicial clerk on the Hawai`i Intermediate Court of Appeals.
