Description
In 1930, American composer William Grant Still wrote an “Afro-American” Symphony in which he cleverly incorporated the sounds of spirituals and the blues into symphonic music. While many composers of African descent found success integrating the sounds of their heritage into their classical works, others developed a distinct voice all their own. Join us as we celebrate DreamWeek with a program uniquely dedicated to Black composers who have made tremendous contributions to classical symphonic music despite significant obstacles.
The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts is a Presenting Partner for this program
Culminating concert theme: Social Studies
