Description
Woodward Canyon, or “Woody,” as it is affectionately nicknamed, is one of the earliest wineries in the Walla Walla Valley. Rick Small and his wife, Darcey Fugman-Small, have been producing premium reds and whites since 1981 at their location in Lowden.
The Smalls are leaders in sustainable wine making. “Fundamentally, we’re harvesting an agricultural product, and with that comes a certain responsibility to the land from which the fruit comes and to the community in which it is grown. It means we are actively interested in the well-being of our employees and of our community,” said Darcey, the winery’s general manager.
Come share some time with these Walla Walla wine pioneers and learn the basics of their craft. Tour the production area and enjoy some time in their tasting room if you like. Walk through a vineyard and hear about the tending of the vines. Hear about their sustainable practices employed from vineyard to bottling to sales and beyond. Wine tastings are available to adults for $5.
Bring a sack lunch, if you wish, and enjoy a picnic on the winery's grounds with other guests after the tour.
