Description
Ways Not To Drown (Creating Source Material)a physical theater workshop series for working artists of all disciplinesAre you looking for new ways to create source material? How do you locate source material? How do you transform it into your art form? How do you translate it for an audience?Deborah Slater will draw on her 30 years of experience generating and shaping material to address all of these questions, providing structure, guidance and support for you to experience and learn new ways of creating new work for audiences.Through this physical theater workshop series, you will create new material each session, walking away with specific, repeatable tasks you can use in your own creative process. You will dive in quickly and deeply using tools of writing, moving and vocalization. You will get out of your own way, developing characters, adding props, and building out your pieces. You will learn how to jump off the edge of a cliff, dive into the fresh water below, and not drown. There will be three intensives and two bonus mini workshops where the public will also be invited. Each intensive will be different and build on the last one. In the first one, we’ll leave the room to bring a body we find in the outside world back to the studio. What is it like to try on your family member? We’ll think about what they wear, their characteristics... Can one of your classmates put you on? In the second session, we’ll use objects. What are all the insane things you can do with objects? What happens when you include images? Lastly, we’ll explore beginnings, middles and ends. You will receive an assignment to work on in between sessions to support your growth. This workshop series is meant for working artists of all disciplines who want to integrate movement into their practice and work.Intensive Sessions & Themes
