Description
Arboriculture Australia Ltd invites you to participate in this year's Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) Sydney sessions.
Credentialed by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), this is your opportunity to obtain or refresh your TRAQ.
This qualification promotes the safety of people and property by providing a standardised and systematic process for assessing tree risk. The results of a tree risk assessment can provide tree owners and risk managers with the information to make informed decisions to enhance tree benefits, health and longevity.
The course content is based on the new Tree Risk Assessment Manual and is divided into nine modules:
Introduction to Tree Risk Assessment
Levels of Assessment
Target Assessment
Site Assessment
Tree Biology and Mechanics
Tree Inspection and Assessment
Data Analysis and Risk Categorisation
Mitigation
Reporting
Why do TRAQ?
Completing TRAQ will ensure your qualifications are kept current and that you continue to use arboriculture best practice when operating in the field. Displaying current qualifications helps consumers identify you as a knowledgeable, experienced tree care professional who is committed to properly caring for and maintaining their trees.
Additionally, upon successfully completing the TRAQ course, you will be eligible to claim 14.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) towards your Arboriculture Australia Ltd membership. You will also be eligible to claim 14.5 CEUs towards any ISA Certified Arborist credential upon course completion.
If you are completing the TRAQ renewal course, you are eligible to claim 5 CEUs towards your Arboriculture Australia Ltd membership. 5 CEUs can also be claimed towards ISA Certified Arborist credentials.
Course format
Completing TRAQ consists of a two-day course followed by a half-day examination.
The course includes lectures, discussions, small-group activities, applied case studies, and field activities.
The concluding exam contains two parts:
A written portion made up of 100 multiple-choice questions. Each question includes four choices, only one of which is correct. You will be given two hours to complete the written portion.
A performance-based component which involves an outdoor tree assessment practicum. This will test your ability to apply tree risk principles to a tree at the training site. You will be given one hour to complete this.
Already have a current TRAQ? Complete the renewal course
The renewal course is an abbreviated version of the full course. The renewal is a one-day refresher with five hours of instruction and three hours to take the exam.
The TRAQ credential is valid for five (5) years from the date it is earned. A credential holder must take the renewal course and pass its exam every five years in order to renew the credential.
The renewal course can be taken 3.5 years after successfully completing the full TRAQ course (18 months prior to the qualification's expiry date), which will then add an additional 5 years of validity from the date your TRAQ was originally due to expire. This means that if you pass the renewal exam four years into your credential, you will have six years until it expires.
When registering for the renewal course, you are required to send a scanned PDF of your current TRAQ to Aboriculture Australia Ltd at office@arboriculture.org.au prior to confirming your registration.
Both Arboriculture Australia Ltd members and ISA certification holders will be eligible to claim 5 CEUs for completing the renewal course.
TRAQ holders who do not take the renewal course and exam before their expiration date will be required to retake the full TRAQ course and pass its exam to re-qualify.
