Panelists:
Sachin Jaitly is an entrepreneur and expert in data, blockchain, and AI. Sachin was co-founder and CEO of flexEngage, which is a patented digital receipt solution. flexEngage offers retailers the ability to issue digital receipts and create CRM databases from purchase data. flexReceipts has deployed its solution to over 20,000 stores worldwide. After flexEngage, Sachin joined Datalogix, which is the world’s largest data and targeting company for digital media. Sachin led the business development efforts and helped scale the company to an exit, when it was acquired by Oracle. Sachin recognizes that extraordinary teams seeking to solve big problems are core to successful investments. He also relates to the passion and fear that comes along with being an entrepreneur. Sachin now combines these experiences to grow Tessera Venture Partners, which is an early stage fund focused on blockchain and AI. Sachin graduated with an MBA in Finance, BA in International Business from Rollins College, and holds a certification in Blockchain Technologies from MIT.
Max Dilendorf, Esq. is the founding partner of Dilendorf Khurdayan, PLLC. Max’s practice involves real estate and digital assets. For real estate clients, Max handles all phases of real estate transactions, including tokenization of real estate, structuring cross-border transactions using digital currency, acquisitions, dispositions and financing of commercial and residential real estate in New York. Max also advises investors on effective real estate holding structures and tax consequences in connection with ownership, operation and transfers of U.S. real property interests.
John J. Gilbert III is COO/EVP/CTO of Rudin Management Company (RMC). RMC manages over 15 million square feet of commercial and residential space, the largest privately owned real estate company in NYC owned by the Rudin Family. John has been involved in every major project the company has developed over the last 24 years including the redevelopment and creation of the world’s first smart building at 55 Broad Street (1995-1996), the development of the Reuters Building at 3 Times Square (1998-2001), the redevelopment of the former ATT Long Lines Building at 32 Avenue of the Americas (1999-2002), the redevelopment of 130 West 12th Street (2010-2011), and the development of The Greenwich Lane (2006-2016). He is also intimately involved with Rudin’s latest project, Dock 72, a ground up 675,000 foot office building located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard where ground was broken in April of 2016. This project is a joint venture with WeWork and Boston Properties and will be completed in 2018. He is acknowledged nationally as an industry thought leader in the integration of technology into the built environment. As a co-inventor of Nantum® building operating system and Executive Chairman of Prescriptive Data, his vision is to future proof real estate by giving all buildings a 'brain'.
Libin Zhang is a tax lawyer and partner at Roberts & Holland LLP. He works with several REITs and other real estate companies on acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and other tax-efficient transactions. Since late 2017, he has been writing and advising on the new tax law, such as claiming the pass-through business income deduction and structuring first and second generation qualified opportunity funds. He received his J.D. from Harvard Law School, magna cum laude, his LL.M. from New York University, and his B.S. and M.S. from the California Institute of Technology.
Josh Panknin is the Director of Real Estate Technology Initiatives in the Engineering school (Industrial Engineering and Operations Research) at Columbia University and a Visiting Assistant Professor of Real Estate at New York University’s Schack Institute of Real Estate. His focus is on developing new capabilities for the real estate industry through technology. By leveraging the immense technology resources at Columbia Engineering, he focuses on foundational research that combines broad and deep engineering capabilities for more holistic solutions rather than narrow, incremental improvements. Prior to academics, Josh was Head of Credit Modeling and Analytics at Deutsche Bank’s secondary CMBS trading desk where he helped develop and implement automated models for valuing CMBS loans and bonds. He also spent time at the Ackman-Ziff Real Estate Group and in various other roles in research, acquisitions, and redevelopment. Josh has a master’s degree in finance from San Diego State University and a master’s degree in real estate finance from New York University’s Schack Institute of Real Estate.
