ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Join us for a weekend journey diving deep into the Magic of Mushrooms. We will begin with a fundamental introduction to this fascinating kingdom of life, and from there begin to probe further into their critical role in ecology and bioremediation efforts, their medicinal potential and then further into some of the mystical qualities some varieties of the species possess.

We will survey various cultivation strategies including some hands on work cloning and inoculating substrates as well as look at techniques for extracting medicinal compounds from the mushroom. Some of our weekend will be spent outside exploring the CoSM grounds and its mycological landscape.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
The Magic of Mushrooms: Session 1 - Friday Evening
We begin our time together with an introduction to the fungal kingdom. Starting with an overview of classifications, life cycles and some of the fascinating aspects of the fungal realm including health and medicine, Bioremediation and other novel functions.

A Host of Allies: Session 2 - Saturday Morning
We will look more closely at a number of species including some of the primary edible and medicinal species found at CoSM and in its surrounding region.

Cultivation 1: Session 3 - Saturday Afternoon
We will get hands on with how people can grow their own mushrooms at home, what tools they will need for setting up a basic at home lab, and easy tips and hacks to make their growing process super easy.

Deeper into the Magic: Session 4 - Saturday Night
We will survey our culture’s evolving relationship with entheogenic mushrooms. Beginning with some history and then explore the shifting landscape of legislation in our country. We will be joined by Issa Jukiro; Shamanic practitioner and psychedelic guide for this discussion.

Martin Bridge:
Martin is an animist, artist, teacher and permaculture designer living in the hills of Western Massachusetts. He has had a fixation with fungi for the last two decades. They have inspired his work and been a part of many of his artistic creations both in painted, and sculptural forms. He has been cultivating mushrooms at home for over 15 years as well helping people integrate these essential species into Permaculture systems.

Alex Dorr:
Alex Dorr is the founder and CEO of the functional mushroom company, Mushroom Revival. Alex hosts the number one mushroom podcast in the world, The Mushroom Revival Podcast. After earning his degree in mycology, Alex authored the book “Mycoremediation Handbook” (2017). Later he went on to build the largest and only certified USDA organic Cordyceps militaris mushroom farm in the Americas. Alex is a leading expert on functional mushrooms and a few years ago nominated as one of Austin Texas Inno’s 25 under 25. In 2023 he launched his latest book "The Little Book of Mushrooms: An Illustrated Guide to the Extraordinary Power of Mushrooms”.

CoSM WORKSHOP SETTING:
Class sessions will take place in the beautiful, newly renovated MAGI Art Lab.
The Grey House, CoSM's Visionary Victorian guest house, provides accommodations for all participants. Residing onsite together is a part of this immersively creative week, providing maximum benefit & enrichment.
Accommodations in Grey House are offered in a variety of economies, in addition to the workshop fee. A $75 commuters fee applies to participants staying offsite.
Participants are welcome to extend their overnight stay at CoSM to the Thursday before and/or the Monday after the workshop.
WORKSHOP AMMENITIES
Available for the duration of the 3 day workshop:
Healthy meals by CoSM chefs, starting with dinner on Friday and ending with lunch on Sunday
Coffee, tea and snacks available in the Art Lab between meals
Access to Grey House common spaces — The Library, The Parlor, The Dining Hall & Gallery Spaces on all three floors.
Yoga mats for self guided practice
Accommodations include private rooms and shared dorm rooms—femme only or co-ed options.
The Wisdom Trail offers a contemplative walk through the CoSM woods, including a labyrinth, outdoor sculptural installations by visionary artists

Access to Facilities, grounds and self-touring Entheon
Students are welcome to experience Entheon and Grey House Galleries, including both CoSM Shop & Entheon Shop.
Beverages and light fare will be available for purchase in the Mushroom Cafe
MATERIALS:
All materials for the course are provided.
While much of this course will happen inside, we intend to explore the CoSM so please come prepared with proper layers and footwear to spend time outside.
We also encourage you to bring a sketchbook and your favorite sketching media as there will be space for art creation as the weekend progresses.
