The Hidden Voices in The Garden of Eden: Empathic Imagination with Peter Pitzele
This lecture-demonstration offers an introduction to the use of the dramatic and empathic imagination in approaching a biblical text. We see the biblical narratives as text-structures that may be entered for a multi-vocal investigation.
Peter Pitzele has his PhD from Harvard in Literature. In his post-academic life, he became trained in the method of Psychodrama, worked for 16 years as a clinician and educator at Four Winds Hospital in Katonah, New York. Out of psychodrama, Peter developed Bibliodrama, a method of role-playing biblical narratives, based on the Jewish concept of midrash.
Peter has been an adjunct faculty member of the Jewish Theological Seminary and The Union Theological Seminary. He has presented before the New York Psychoanalytical Society, traveled extensively in the United States and Europe teaching people how to make use of the method of Bibliodrama and has written two books, Our Fathers' Wells: A Personal Encounter with the Myths of Genesis, and Scripture Windows: Towards a Practice of Bibliodrama. Both have been re-published this year by Ben Yehuda Press. Peter's novel, Perfect Beauty, has just been published by Epigraph Press and is available on Amazon.
