What is the The Entrepreneurship Society?
The Tech Society facilitates transactions among emerging technology Founders/C-Suite, investors and service providers. The Tech Society owns The Entrepreneurship Society, The Cannabis Society, The Blockchain Society, The PropTech Society and The E-Gaming Society. The Tech Society creates, markets and executes 120+ emerging technology conferences and hackathons annually in the USA, Canada, and Europe with expansion planned for Asia in 2020.
The Conference will include speaker presentations, panels, and a roundtable discussion designed to connect you to investment opportunities / sources of capital while learning from business experts and thought leaders.

Daniel Israelsohn, Vice President, Plaza Ventures
Daniel is a finance executive with extensive experience advising and leading multi-national corporations on their corporate finance and tax structures. As the finance leader for a high-growth SaaS company, Dan scaled up operations and managed the strategic sale of the company to a private equity firm. He has also served as a financial and strategy advisor to various early- and mid-stage tech companies. Today, Dan leads PV’s finance and administration, overseeing all due-diligence activities. He works closely with our portfolio finance teams to improve their finance functions, metrics tracking and governance. With our partners, Dan takes a leadership role in the practice helping to manage investments and deliver superior returns to investors.
Matt Cohen, Founder & Managing Partner, Ripple Ventures
Ripple Ventures was founded by Matt Cohen, an operator turned investor. Starting with his first investment in Turnstyle Solutions, he helped bring the company from idea in 2012 to exit in 2017 with more than just his cheque. Through hands-on operations, strategy, and business development guidance, the company sold to Yelp! in 2017. Afterwards, Matt went on to Street Contxt, a global communication platform for the institutional financial community, to help scale their enterprise sales team.

Alex Baluta, Chief Executive Officer of Flow Capital
Mr. Baluta has over twenty-seven years of professional experience in Canada and the US in investment banking, equity research, mergers and acquisitions, operations, consulting, and entrepreneurship. Alex was a top-ranked equity research analyst in Canada in the early 2000s, focused on the software sector. His primary focus throughout his career has been advising, analyzing, operating, and investing in small and medium-sized enterprises, primarily in high-growth technology sectors.
William Sutherland, Vice-President, Kilmer Group
William holds the role of Vice President Investment Services and has 20 years of experience in finance and operations. He has been seconded to the Coca-Cola Canada Bottling group as a Special Projects Lead to assist with operational and non-organic growth of the company. William previously worked as a Principal at Kensington Capital. He was a senior member of the deal investment and management team focused on private equity, venture capital and infrastructure platforms. William was selected on several occasions to take operating roles with portfolio companies where he was successful in implementing strategic plans and providing significant operational improvement. He has advised dozens of companies in the development of comprehensive operating plans, financial models, financial restructuring and M&A.
Prior to Kensington, William worked for the Global Investment Banking division of RBC Capital Markets, as an Associate in the Corporate Finance Energy Group in Calgary. William was also a member of the RBC ECM Generalist program and spent two years with M&A, sales & trading and equity research groups both in Toronto and New York. In addition, William has operatioal, engineering design and risk management experience with Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America and Toyota Tsusho Canada. William, a professional engineer, also ran his own engineering consulting firm, serving clients in the Ontario area.
Mark Gilbert, Director, Espresso Capital
Mark Gilbert is a seasoned tech banker who brings 12 years of sales and underwriting experience at financial institutions. Prior to joining Espresso, Mark was at a Tier 1 Canadian Bank, where he was the Regional Market Leader of the bank’s Technology practice for the Greater Toronto Area. He has financed technology companies across Canada, a number of which have been recognized via industry awards for their leadership and growth.
Jonah Midanik, Founder & CEO, Limelight Platforms and Venture Partner with Acceleprise
An engineer by trade, Jonah has spent the last twenty years at the intersection of marketing and technology as a serial entrepreneur in Canada. Jonah has been lucky enough to have several different lenses on the founder journey from bootstrapping, to launched new corporate divisions, and raising 8 figures of venture capital. Jonah currently spends his time as founder / CEO of Limelight Platforms, and helping Canadian companies grow as a Venture Partner with Acceleprise, an early stage Fund with operations in New York, San Franciso, and Toronto.
Rob Luini, Senior Account Manager, Export Development Canada (EDC)
Rob started at EDC in 2013 and before that was with a major international bank. Rob has worked with start-ups to larger multinational clients in many industry segments but his favorite has always been within the technology industry. Eva Lau, Founding Partner, Two Small Fish Ventures
Eva is a well respected entrepreneur-turned-investor in Canada. Before starting Two Small Fish Ventures, she was Wattpad’s Head of Community and Content. She helped nurture and scale the Wattpad community from its infancy to become one of the largest online communities with tens of millions of monthly users around the world. With a sharp focus on investing companies with strong network effect as their defensibility, Eva has created the ASSET framework that many entrepreneurs and accelerators have adopted in their developing business strategies. Eva is regarded as an expert in this area.
Eva is also involved in many incubators and accelerators, such as Creative Destruction Lab at Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto’s Entrepreneurship Hatchery, Ryerson’s DMZ, University of Waterloo’s Velocity and Techstars. She also serves on the board of Branksome Hall and a number of startup companies.
Mykal A. Johncox, Chairman, The Johncox Company
Mr. Johncox is the Chairman of The Johncox Company, a sector-agnostic investment company focused on early stage ventures. The Company works alongside its portfolio companies, not only as an equity partner, but also in operations. Mr. Johncox brings to bear significant, international market and operational experience, having overseen derivatives at a multi-billion-dollar asset manager, orchestrated turnarounds, levered equities, and engaged in special situations.
Jeremy Thompson, Partner, Penfund
Jeremy has over 20 years of private equity investing experience. He began his career working in the leveraged finance department of Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York with a focus on senior and subordinated debt financing in a variety of industries. He later joined Oak Hill Capital Management, Inc. in New York, where he was responsible for private equity investments in the basic industry, consumer products, and retail and distribution sectors. Prior to joining Penfund, Jeremy spent more than 10 years with ONCAP Management Partners, the middle market private equity division of ONEX Corporation. While at ONCAP, Jeremy led transactions in the automotive aftermarket, renewable energy, education and business services sectors. Jeremy has a BA (Honours) in Economics from Queens University.
Frank Spano, Chief Operating Officer, New Age Products
Frank Spano is in the business of solving problems for homeowners. Adam Shantz, Principal, ONCAP
Adam joined ONCAP in 2010. Previously, he worked in the Investment Banking division of UBS in Toronto. Adam is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Dana Parsons - Director of New Ventures, Highline Beta
Dana Parsons is the Director of New Ventures at Highline Beta. She's worked with globally recognized brands such as ABInBev (Anheiseur Busch Global), RBC Ventures, and Aviva helping them navigate collaborations with new technologies. Previously she CoFounded a tech startup and worked for an award-winning technology incubator growing its portfolio from eight in 2016 to twenty-one by 2018. She was recognized as one of Atlantic Canada's Top 40 under 40 and continues to support the Eastern Canadian tech ecosystem from her current home in Toronto, ON.

David Kwok, Entrepreneurship Manager, Yspace (Launch YorkU)
David joined York University in 2017 as the Entrepreneurship Manager for YSpace Markham. Prior to joining York University, David held various roles at The DMZ at Ryerson University, ranging from business development to creating programs for incubated startups.
In addition to this, David has co-founded ZerotoStartup, an educational venture focused on creating curriculum for maker spaces upon graduation. He is also involved with several non-for-profit organizations including SAGE Canada, a youth entrepreneurial program as the National Coordinator and Pledges for Change, a community-based youth empowerment program as an Advisory Board member.
Sen Sachi, Director of Accelerator Programs at the DMZ
Sen manages the DMZ’s award-winning accelerator programs, startup support services and works directly with entrepreneurs to help them grow and scale their business.The experienced tech leader brings with him knowledge gained from years working with early to mid-stage tech companies at Communitech as a Program Manager and lessons learned from building his first ed-tech startup. During his time with Communitech, Sen played an instrumental role in developing its recognized sales program for post-seed stage companies and helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses.
