Jesse Wachtel, EuroAmerican Funding Group
Jesse was the co-founder of PhoneTag, the first US-based voicemail transcription service and the basis for Apple and Google’s voicemail-to-text transcription feature. Following his exit, he was integral in developing mobile ticketing technology applications for mass transit as partner of the executive team at Bytemark, another advanced startup.

Lauren Epstein, Associate, OMERS Ventures
In her role at OMERS Ventures, Lauren is responsible for researching and executing on investment opportunities in growth-oriented, disruptive technology companies. She also provides assistance to portfolio companies post-investment and engages in relationship building and outreach in the community.
Previously, Lauren was the Director of Investments at Epstein Enterprises Inc., a Toronto-based family office, where she was responsible for growing the angel investing portfolio. She managed the full cycle of tech investing opportunities in origination, execution, and value creation.
Before joining Epstein Enterprises, Lauren spent several years working as a litigation lawyer at a leading Toronto commercial litigation law firm, after clerking at the Ontario Court of Appeal. Raphael Christian-Roy, Co-Founder | Managing Director of Front Row Ventures @ Real Ventures
Raphaël is Co-Founder of Front Row Ventures, Canada’s first student-led venture capital fund. He’s a product geek that is first and foremost passionate about creating outstanding technologies that enhance people's lives, especially consumer-centric ones.
Coming from a jack-of-all-trades-entrepreneurial background combined with a software engineering undergrad, he has always been an entrepreneur. As a teenager, he went from owning a car garage to a window-cleaning business to a tech startup. Motivated and inspired by entrepreneurship, he has been involved in organizing numerous events including Startup Weekends, and countless hackathons and educational events.
Prior to FRV, he spent two years working as a Product Manager and developing Volume7, a digital product agency that partners with forward-thinking startups and companies. He’s now also working on the early-stage team at Real Ventures, Canada's most active seed venture capital fund. The firm invests throughout the life-cycle of early-stage companies and provides stage-appropriate capital and support for the founders it backs.

Paul Arlin, Co-Founder at Jiffy
Paul’s the Co-founder and Chief Marketplace Officer at Jiffy, a platform that connects homeowners with trades in real-time, based on proximity and availability. Jiffy’s narrow focus on small, commoditized, pre-priced jobs enable them to deliver an instant experience for both homeowners and trades. Jasmin Ganie-Hobbs, Senior Development Banker-Tech, BDC
Jasmin works extensively with emerging technology, innovation, knowledge based companies, and women entrepreneurs. Jasmin provides both financial and consulting solutions to entrepreneurs. Andrew Abouchar, Chief Credit Officer, TIMIA Andrew has 20-plus years of experience in Canada’s venture capital and private equity industry. He is a cofounder and partner in Tech Capital Partners Inc, a Waterloo-based venture capital management company and founder of TCP Property Inc, a private real estate fund. Earlier in his career, Abouchar worked as an accountant at PwC and as an investment manager at Working Ventures. Dalal Zayouna, Account Manager, Technology Group, EDC
Dalal is an Account Manager at Export Development Canada (EDC), working with technology companies as they continue to grow and scale globally. Howard Katz, Managing Director, Mackie Research Capital
Howard is a 20 year capital markets veteran with a broad range of experience including both financing and advisory mandates to a wide range of sectors in the Canadian markets. Howard also has extensive management experience as a successful CEO having profitably sold his privately-held company in 2016. As a senior investment banker, Howard has led or co-managed billions of dollars in the junior and mid-cap sector in Canada. Howard is focused on the technology sector and special situations, providing advisory and finance solutions to clients, whereby leading management teams can share their successes with investors. James Black, VP, Listings Development for the Canadian Securities Exchange (“CSE”).
Based in Vancouver, BC Mr. Black manages the CSE’s domestic and international programs for attracting exciting new companies to the exchange as well as evangelizing the CSE as “the Exchange for Entrepreneurs”.
Prior to James’ tenure at the CSE, he was a manager at the National Angel Organization where his focus was on helping Angel groups launch, network with one another, and establish best practices for investing. He graduated from Ryerson University in Toronto with Honours majoring in Entrepreneurial studies.
Jess Joss, CEO at Alliance of 3 Angel Groups
With over 20 years of business expertise and almost a decade of investing experience, Jess Joss is CEO of 3 angel investing groups, co-founder of Insiteful Solutions and partner in Spyder Capital Corp.
Jess’s passion for entrepreneurship began shortly after university when she founded a web development firm which continues to thrive today. Jess grew the business, scaling it to an integrated online marketing firm, eventually adding partners. In 2011, with a structure in place, devoting her time to Insiteful Solutions pivoted to investing in the future of start-ups. With extensive business experience, as well as Board and volunteer management expertise, Jess became the Executive Director of YAI in 2014, following many years as an active angel investor with the group.
Leveraging her entrepreneurial, business, and marketing acumen, Jess worked with the YAI team to grow membership by over 450%, as well as increase deal flow, the number of deals completed and amount invested. This renewed energy and motivation earned YAI the honour of being ranked Top 5 in Canada in 2015 and 2016, tied for 1st place in 2017, and solely in first place in 2018.YAI now has the largest membership in Ontario and second largest in Canada. Jess completed her work with York Angle Investors at the end of June 2019. And starting this summer Jess is transitioning into a new role, as CEO of an alliance of three angel groups; Angel One, GTAN and SWO. This new joint venture (yet to be named) will provide streamlined screening, presenting and Due Diligence for founders who are raising equity funding. And for the almost 200 angels it will provide and opportunity to see the best companies, negotiate the best deals, and nimbly invest. Jess is eager to learn about the local innovation ecosystems in Kitchener-Waterloo, Burlington-Hamilton, and London. This will be an exciting and challenging new role, and jess looks forward to working closely with the local partners.
Jess is also active in the ecosystem and believes in supporting early stage innovation through mentoring, speaking on panels and judging pitch competitions. She was also elected to the NACO Board in Oct. 2017, as Marketing Chair, was NACO World Angel Investment Summit (Conference) Chair 2018 and is also currently Board rep on the Team Enhancement (HR) Committee.

Andrew Zimakas, CEO at Sprout
Andrew Zimakas has over 25 years of operating and consulting experience in a range of industry sectors, including Health & Wellness, Loyalty & Analytics, Financial Services, Technology/Media, and Consumer Packaged Goods. Andrew is currently the CEO of Sprout Wellness Solutions, a leading digital wellness engagement platform used by progressive companies to improve the wellbeing of their employees and their business. As Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) at Tangerine Bank, a pioneering digital financial institution that is now part of Scotiabank, Andrew was responsible for all aspects of Marketing and Customer Experience, leading the award-winning rebranding from ING DIRECT to Tangerine. Andrew was a principal at LEVEL 5 Strategy Group, a boutique strategy consultancy, and has also held leadership roles at other organizations including Microsoft and P&G.
