SPEAKERS: Mary Ludden is an assistant teaching professor in the Master of Science in Project Management Program. She previously served as adjunct faculty in the MBA program at Southern New Hampshire University. Prior to joining Northeastern, Dr. Ludden served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of National Government Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Anthem, Inc. Dr. Ludden was responsible for a portfolio of programs and projects in excess of $450 million of annual operating revenue generated from government contracts consisting of both health information technology programs and business process programs. Dr. Ludden brings a breadth of expertise to her students, including project management, performance measurement, data analytics, information technology, and strategic planning. She is a frequent invited speaker on these subjects.
Laura McGee is the founder and CEO of Diversio, a tech company that uses data analytics and machine learning to help companies become more inclusive. She previously worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Co where she focused on economic growth, diversity and inclusion. Laura is a serial social entrepreneur who has co-founded several initiatives around diversity, including #GoSponsorHer, #WeNeedBoth and Summit Leaders. She is a frequent writer and speaker on diversity and inclusion, including seminal research on Women in Law Firms with LeanIn and Wall Street Journal. Laura serves on the advisory boards of Ryerson’s MBA program and Informed Opinions, and was named one of Canada’s Top 25 Women of Influence in 2017.
Soha Yasrebi is an engineer turned VC who is an analyst with OMERS Ventures. Prior to joining the venture world, she was a Senior Consultant in Deloitte's Technology Consulting practice, managing IT streams for large-scale ERP implementations and specializing in cloud solutions. Soha has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with a Minor in Business and Entrepreneurship from University of Toronto.
Jason Brenier is the VP of Strategy at Georgian Partners. Jason leads the development of Georgian’s investment thesis areas and works closely with Georgian’s portfolio companies to integrate artificial intelligence and natural language processing into messaging products and conversational interfaces. Jason also supports Georgian’s investment lifecycle and due diligence process and assists with applied research and product development efforts on the Impact team. Jason has more than 15 years of experience applying advanced analytics, computational linguistics and machine learning to business problems in the financial services, life sciences and legal domains. Prior to joining Georgian Partners, Jason held business analytics and technology leadership positions in management consulting, enterprise software and start-ups.
Jansen Sullivan is the lead at Catalystic NEST & Ventures and where he helps catalyze startups by adding data strategy and analytics to their core products. He is also the Director of Catalystic Education leading the way to level up organizations and executives to become more data driven and the next generation data scientists to become workforce ready. Jansen has been working in the data analytics world for the last 10 years, transforming multiple fortune 500 insight strategies, data layers and analysis pathways. Along with working at Catalystic, he serves on multiple startup advisory boards and helps take care of Rhino the bulldog.
Victor Anjos, Co-Founder / CTO of Catalystic.Ai & Data for Good. Leveraging expertise in hardware, software, networking, and data science, engineering and executive management, Victor has led startup, small and medium and enterprise businesses to several funding milestones, exits and acquisitions. He is currently a co-founder of Catalystic.Ai; a group of AI companies that looks to rapidly evolve business objectives for small, medium and enterprise businesses. Victor recently helped launch the Artificial Intelligence engineering teams at DeepLearni.ng as their CTO and has key advisory roles at several Canadian Artificial Intelligence startups, as well as Board of Director seats at several companies. His leadership efforts have recently been recognized as Canada's AI Leader of the year and at Tech In Motion's Timmy Awards, where he was named the Top Tech Manager. Earlier in his career, Victor focused on hardware engineering, building some of the largest data centers and data warehouses in the world for SUN Microsystems, Telus, and Shaw Media. Victor is also the co-creator of Data For Good, a Canadian not-for-profit with over 10,000 members and 9 affiliate chapters across the country.
Fern Karsh is a strategic consultant and in-house lawyer focused on blockchain, cryptoassets and frontier technologies. Fern is General Counsel to Catalystic AI and co-founder of Catalystic STAR, artificial intelligence and blockchain consultancies whose principles are former Bain as well as Canada’s 2018 CATA “AI Leader of the Year”. Fern is responsible for internal legal and corporate secretarial needs, supporting the artificial intelligence consulting team and running the blockchain and crypto-assets group, providing risk-managed, multi-disciplinary, end-to-end blockchain and cryptoassets consulting. Fern has consulted various types of blockchain and cryptoasset businesses, with a focus on managing legal and regulatory risk, and public policy research and advocacy. Fern has served on for-profit and not- for-profit boards. She blogs and speaks on blockchain legal and regulatory issues and is actively involved in the community. Previously, her background was in asset management as a General Counsel with legal, compliance and operational responsibilities. Fern spent over ten years in the practice of law. Fern received her J.D. from the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto and her B.A. in Economics and ACS (Finance) from the University of Western Ontario.
Joey Sham is a machine learning engineer and data engineer working a SnapTravel. He has previously worked as a Machine Learning Engineer, Data Engineer, and Software Architect with various startups and corporations such as Hubba, Interac, and TD. He also teaches Data Science part-time at Brainstation. Joey earned both his B. Eng in Nuclear Engineering and M. Sc in Physics at McMaster University. Currently, he is focused on Deep Learning papers involving attention and embedding space.
Evan Clarke is the Academic and Student Affairs Manager at Northeastern University’s Toronto campus. As such, he works with Northeastern faculty members to ensure high-quality program delivery and is the main point of contact for Toronto-based students. Prior to coming to Northeastern, Evan taught philosophy at Boston College, where he earned a doctorate in philosophy in 2014. The focus of his research is German philosophy between the late 18th and early 20th century. Evan is also a graduate of the University of Toronto and the University of Guelph.
Jennifer Nguyen is the Lead Data Scientist at Sun Life Financial’s Analytics Centre of Excellence, helping the company to build intelligent data solutions to better serve their clients. Her past experience in the field includes the Globe and Mail, Scribd and Slyce. She holds a Master’s in Machine Learning from University College London and a B. Math from the University of Waterloo. Jennifer is a strong proponent of gender diversity in her field and partners with the University of Waterloo to support young females pursuing careers in STEM.
