THEATRE DOWNTOWN RETURNS! Our first show since 2020!
First in our comeback season is THE CRUCIBLE, by Arthur Miller. Written in 1953, it is a partially fictionalized story of the Salem witch trials that took place in 1692 and 1693. Miller wrote the play as an allegory for McCarthyism and, unfortunately, it is still an apt and timely allegory for many of the issues that plague our nation today.
Miller was questioned by the House of Representatives’ Committee on Un-American Activities in 1956 and convicted of contempt of Congress for refusing to identify others present at meetings he had attended.
Come with us to Salem, let us tell you this (mostly) true story, and then decide for yourself: Which matters more, your honor or your life?
