Our 2019 Speaker Line-up:
Alan Arnett
“After training originally as an engineer/designer, I got curious about how we humans work, and have built my career exploring what it takes for people to handle the challenges of doing new things well (e.g. digital business, innovation, change and mergers). I’ve worked directly for Ford, PwC, BP and AXA XL, and I now help people make practical sense of work and leadership for our digital age.”

In 2016, Andrea and Jon established Soulmates Academy to help individuals and organisations achieve better wellbeing and emotional health through proactively equipping people with strong relationship skills as a natural part of personal and professional development. They both hold postgraduate Management Studies degrees from Oxford University. Andrea is also a Jamaican Rhodes Scholar.
Topic
Relationship breakdown is crippling us as individuals, as families and as a society. With the stats revealing that roughly half of all couples don’t “go the distance” and that family breakdown is an increasing cause of mental health concerns in our youth, this talk is a message of urgency around the need for proactively equipping people with strong relationship skills in order to stem the tide.

Oliver Lam-Watson
“My names Oliver, I’m 25 and I was born with a disability that affects my left leg. About two years ago a doctor told me I would spend the rest of my life on crutches and never be an athlete. Life on crutches was a bitter pill to swallow, fortunately I had no plans on becoming an athlete, but I really don’t like being told what to do. A year and a half later I’m now I’m a Team GB Wheelchair fencer. Do what you can’t.”
Topic
“People perceptions of us are usually based on the first thing they see, for me that’s my disability, so they usually assume what I can’t do before they think about what I can. Whether you have a disability or not, whatever your adversity might be, it’s up to us to change these perceptions. Our biggest obstacles are not our disabilities or adversities, they are theses perceptions of what we are capable of.”

She believes that if we all work together now to solve this global health issue, we can be thriving rather than just merely surviving.
Topic
“My talk is worth spreading because if we do not make a change right now with the overuse of antibiotics, the primary driver of resistance, we will be in the infection-driven apocalypse era where microbes will soon take over humans.”
