On Tuesday April 12, the community gathers to celebrate the global innovators who are applying new social enterprise models to improve the health of citizens in Charlottesville and around the world.Beginning with a conversation between Dr. Helen Lee, President and CEO of Diagnostics for the Real World, Dr. Rick Shannon, Executive Vice President of the UVA Health System, and Ross Baird, Executive Director of Village Capital, the community will gain insight into the role that impact investing and philanthropy are having in shaping research and discovery, and the system innovations that will impact millions of lives.Dr. Lee chaired the Diagnostic Steering Committee at the World Health Organization (WHO) and was awarded the 2006 British Female Inventor in Industry Award for her multiple patents and work to develop cutting-edge technologies and diagnostic capabilities in resource poor countries.Following the discussion, local innovators will share their stories of building globally relevant, system changing therapies and technologies that bridge nonprofit and corporate structures to develop new models for social innovations. Presenters include David Dusseau, CEO, MadiDrop PBC, Brynne Potter, CEO and cofounder, Maternity Neighborhood, David Kalergis, founder of Diffusion Pharmaceuticals, and Neal Kassell, MD, founder of Focused Ultrasound Foundation.
