Blockbusters. Indie films. Unbeatable views. Seaport Cinema returns for the summer with a wide range of movies screening on The Rooftop at Pier 17.
Doors open at 6pm. Panel discussion begins at 6:30pm. Movie screening will begin at 7:00pm.
The film Maiden tells the incredible true story of Tracy Edwards who assembled the first all female crew to compete in the 1989 Whitebread Around the World Race-considered to be one of the most dangerous sailing competitions in the world. Along their journey, Tracy and her crew not only conquered fifty-foot waves and icebergs, but also battled a storm of sexism, doubts, and attacks from their male competitors and press. Maiden is a film about guts and the power of determination, about how when we are allowed to believe in ourselves, great things are possible.
Come early for a panel discussion with Tracy Edwards; her daughter, Mackenna Edwards-Mair; and members of Maiden’s crew as they discuss the challenges of yesterday and today for women in a male dominated sport, celebrate the successes of Maiden’s voyage around the world; and highlight the work of the Maiden Factor Foundation which raises funds for and supports communities to educate and enable girls throughout their teenage years to reach their full potential and create better futures for all.
A brief question and answer session will follow the screening for those who wish to stay.
A limited number of chairs will be available, or you can bring your own blankets and chairs to lay out on the turf.
