Description
The imminent darkness of winter is drawing nearer, inviting us to go down into the depths of ourselves, our psyches, our wombs. As the wheel turns to Samhain (pronounced Sow-ain), we come to the simultaneous ending and beginning of the Celtic year. This is significant as it illustrates the way ancient people saw endings and beginnings as equally powerful and important thresholds and integral to the cycle of life. Endings are portals through which beginnings can be born. Samhain is a time of shedding, letting go, releasing that which no longer serves into the cauldron of the Dark Goddess where it may be transmuted and reborn in the springtime at the return of the light. As the energy of Samhain pulls us down into the dark, there is the potential to reveal previously hidden aspects of ourselves for deep healing and reclamation. Collectively as women, a huge amount of our power is held within the shadow and when we consciously dive into these places, significant shifts and awakening can occur. Samhain celebrates the Crone, the Grandmother, the wise woman and witch archetypes, and the Dark Goddess. In the Avalonian tradition, we work with the Crone Goddess Keridwen, keeper of the cauldron of transformation, and Sheela-na-Gig, whose yonic gateway is a portal between the worlds, an entrance into the great mysteries. Samhain is a time of honoring our ancestors, our roots, and our beloved dead. The veils between the worlds are thinnest at Samhain and it is a potent time for divination, for tuning into the small, still voice within and for trusting our intuition. In the cycle of the wheel of the year, Samhain is the time to set intentions for the year ahead, similar to new year's resolutions. We plant seeds of intention in the darkness so they may incubate in the womb of the Great Mother in the winter, coming to life with the light in the spring.
You are invited to join a special Samhain ceremony Saturday, November 2nd with Baelyn Elspeth and Taylor Phinny Russell. We'll begin in the morning with a tea ceremony honoring the archetype of the witch and the witches within us. After a light snack, we will then dive into an Avalonian ceremony where we will journey to meet the Dark Goddess within. It will be a sacred and powerful experience!
