Diversity and inclusion have become the pivot point of many societal conversations from Native rights to gender equality and many more. No one would argue the importance of each of these initiatives or that they have each created long overdue and impactful conversations. However we ask,
"Are diversity and inclusion conversations actually a symptom of a much larger problem... a society lacking in, yet desperately seeking, empathy?"
Meet Our Speakers:
David BastedoDavid Bastedo is a superb and innovative image maker and has been the exclusive photographer for the Tragically Hip joining them on their journeys including their historic Farewell Tour in 2016. He shoots with an eye for the unusual and produces evocative and powerful images. While traveling and shooting for various bands, David also spent 18+ years in the conceptualization, development and execution of digital content. Previously, David was Partner and Creative Technologist at Gravity Partners, a Digital Strategy Design firm.
His passion for music has enabled him to travel across North America and Europe documenting and creating content for Canadian bands such as The Tragically Hip, The Trews, Sam Roberts Band, Paul Langlois and Gord Downie. His work has been featured in these selected publications: The Toronto Star, The New York Times , FYI Music News, London Free Press, Huffington Post Canada, Hamilton Spectator, The Globe and Mail, The Hill Times, CBC, Calgary Herald, Halifax Magazine, Billboard, Infopresse, Winnipeg Free Press, Maclean’s.
Jodi KovitzJodi is a passionate innovator, relationship builder, revenue generator and connector. She is the former CEO of AceTech Ontario and the Founder of #MoveTheDial, a movement founded in January 2017 to advance women in tech. Just Say Hello is her joy project through which she teaches people how to build transformative business relationships. In November 2017, Jodi was recognized by the Women’s Executive Network as one of Canada’s top 100 most powerful women. Jodi is serving on the SickKids Foundation Capital Campaign Cabinet to raise $1.3B to transform children’s health and conceptualized and is leading the first-ever tech community strategy to raise $100M with a team of 25 tech leaders she has built, serves on the advisory board focused on revenue strategy & customer acquisition of Maple Corporation and Mediseen and another soon to be launched tech company in Toronto and is on Mayor John Tory’s Toronto Innovation Council and the leadership team for Elevate Toronto and will soon join Advisory Board for the Lazaridis Institute Scale Up Program in Waterloo.
Tania DeSaTania DeSa is CEO of Desa Global Leadership Inc – an international leadership training firm whose mission is to inspire professionals to find voice and visibility in corporate boardrooms so they feel more fired up and get promoted at work.
As a leadership trainer, Tania draws from intercultural experiences of traveling to over 77 countries and living, studying and working in Australia, Japan, Hungary, Spain, China, and Switzerland. She is a professionally trained coach. Tania holds an International MBA from ESADE Business School in Spain and Peking University in China.
Tania has thrived in corporate sales and marketing management roles within the healthcare industry in such companies as Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, Medtronic, Ecolab, Johnson & Johnson and has led strategic discussions at the World Health Organization in Switzerland. She also leads an Employee Resource Group Leadership Council whereby Fortune 500 companies engage in quarterly diversity roundtables as part of her BOD role with non-profit North American Association of Asian Professionals (NAAAP Toronto).
