This Zine Building workshop will focus on making a community zine using traditional cut-and-paste style as well as digital print-outs. We’ll be exploring: layout and design, editing and proofreading stories, and assembling works for zines. By the end of the session the group will have developed a strong connection with the rest of the group and will have a copy of their zine to share with friends and family.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Whitney French is a writer, storyteller and multi-disciplinary artist. She’s been published in a couple of places but she takes more pride in the community she builds than the things she produces. Whitney is also the founder and co-editor of the nationwide publication From the Root Zine as well as the founder of the workshop series Writing While Black, an initiative to develop a community of black writers. Whitney French is presently working on an anthology of creative non-fiction by black Canadians for the University of Regina Press.
