Description
This workshop will take place during Scarborough Arts Doors Open event and will allow participants the chance to explore Vincent Van Gogh’s painting, “Starry Night”. Using the expressive mediums of oil pastel and a variety of papers, participants will explore the artist’s feelings for colour, composition and subject matter. The approach to learning is through problem solving and guided discovery. Each participant will choose and use oil pastel techniques to create his/her own expressive piece of art reflecting what the participant has found influential from Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Carol Knowlton-Dority (B.A., Bachelor of Education) is a practicing Visual Artist who develops arts-based educational and community experiences. Knowlton-Dority has brought children and visual arts together; as a classroom teacher in both public and private school settings, and as an art educator for the Toronto District School Board, The Bishop Strachan School, Branksome Hall and organizations such as City of Toronto Public Health, City of Toronto Special Events, DiscoverAbility and the RedEye Studio Gallery in the Distillery District. She created and implemented in two Ontario District School Boards, Journey Into Peace: A Bullying Prevention Program Through Visual Arts.
