Description
“The gun is good! The penis is evil! The penis shoots seeds and makes new life to poison the earth with the plague of men, as once it was. The gun shoots death and purifies the earth of the filth of brutals. Go forth and kill!”The year is 2293. In the Wasteland, the mortal “Brutals" grow food for the immortal bourgeois “Eternals” who lead a boring, aimless life in The Vortex. Zed (played by Sean Connery) is a provocatively clad Exterminator who slaughters the Brutals under orders from the false god Zardoz: a giant floating stone head. Escaping into The Vortex, Zed incites chaos in the failed utopia, dividing the Eternals. Some hope to keep him for study, while others, such as the beautiful Consuella (played by Charlotte Rampling), seek to destroy him… Unless he destroys them first.Zardoz is an ambitious surrealist sci-fi film from the bizarre mind of writer/director/producer John Boorman (Deliverance). Though widely considered to be one of the worst movies ever made, it is beloved by many. A cinematic delight, packed with nudity, violence, and stunning visuals beyond imagination. This special screening of Zardoz will be accompanied by an original live score from electronic composer Jess Forrest (aka Castle If). — Equipped with a small, yet powerful assembly of analog synthesizers, Castle If crafts retro-futuristic “cosmic exotica” inspired by the strange sounds of the synth pioneers that forged electronic music. Forrest has shared the stage with artists such as Silver Apples, U.S. Girls, Grimes, Steve Hauschildt, and Julianna Barwick. Her acclaimed albums include Plant Material (2017), and dystopian sci-fi concept album Sector 03 (2018). She is currently scoring Robotik, a children's television show for CBC. Zardoz cosplay encouraged!Royal Stompbox is made possible through the generous support of the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council.Doors/Preshow: 8:00pmFilm: 8:30pmCost: $14 Advance / $15 Door
