Since 2011, Reelworld has put the spotlight on emerging talent in Toronto with our ACTRA Shorts program. Exclusively made for the festival, this program presents six short films, written, directed and produced by members of ACTRA’s Young Emerging Actors Assembly (YEAA) – actors and burgeoning filmmakers between the ages of 17-30. The Drip!

The Drip! is a game show set in the near-future. In an attempt to win one million dollars and one million followers, competitors are locked in place as a single drop of water drips onto their head every ten seconds. Only the competitors can free themselves from the drip and no competitor knows where they are in the standings so they force themselves to stay as long as they can under the drip until it slowly drives them insane...

A female mixed martial arts prospect must cut weight before she hits the scale for a career defining bout. However, her body stops responding to the cut and refuses to let go of the last 6 pounds in order for her to qualify in her weight class. Tempers flare as her team of trainers panic over how much they invested and sacrificed for her. In her dehydrated and delirious state, we find that one of her trainers may not have her best interest in mind.

A decade after the last of the bees died off, wreaking havoc on crops and bringing devastation, two sisters set off on a mission to find a solution. Robotic bees have tried to fill the void, but so far can barely even be called a band-aid for the problem. Sam and Charlie make their way through this soon-to-be wasteland, carrying with them what promises to turn back the clock and bring a better tomorrow. Though Sam is taller and appears fearless, she is younger than level-headed, nurturing Charlie. It is love, not blood that makes them family, but since meeting, they have never been anything but. Now, on their way back the sister’s have what appears to be a pointless conversation, but is actually the most important; their last.
