Real Connections SoFla For Kids

Real Connections SoFla is offering a way for your kids to connect to themselves, others in the community, and nature.
These 30-45 minute classes throughout July will be interactive with three amazing LOCAL teachers. Veronica, Amanda, and Keyla will engage with your children by teaching them various life skills through art, music, movement, cooking, and much more!
The classes are via Zoom and are recorded, just in case your kids miss it.. but you won't want them to miss it! It will get them eager to see their new camp friends, show what they worked on in other classes, have them meet kids from other cities and states, and most importantly find ways to connect for their overall health and well-being.

Together we will create a journal for use throughout the camp, utilizing common household items!

Yogis will practice strengthening yoga poses through a story of a small seedling that withstood a storm.

Loving Our Bodies with Amanda
This class will begin with a light restorative yoga flow and lead into a discussion on self care and having healthy habits. We will go over very basic nutrition as part of the Self-Care discussion.

Fruits & Veggies with Vero
Interactive guessing game with fruits & veggies followed by a veggie puppet show. We'll end the class by making plant-based smoothies that will be as healthy as they are delicious!
Materials: banana, strawberries (or any additional fruit desired), plant-based milk, nut butter and/or hemp seeds for protein (optional)

Take 5 mindful Breath and Craft with Keyla
Yogis will create a craft using their hand to practice breathing mindfully.
Materials: Yoga mat, water bottle, construction paper, glue/tape, crayons or markers and scissors.

Nature Mandala with Amanda
Children will create a mandala with items from nature. At the end children will also receive a recipe for "bird balls"-a healthy snack that is delicious and energizing!
Materials: Construction paper, liquid glue, outdoor items- [leaves, petals, flowers, sticks, rocks, stones, pebbles, flowers, etc. Make sure to grab at least 6 of each item. For small items (smaller than a fingernail), try to find 12 or more.)]

Yogis will participate in a Read Aloud "I am Enough" by Grace Byers experience then create self affirming cards to help them remember how truly special and unique that are!

Meditation for Kids with Amanda
Children will learn the basics surrounding different methods of meditation, including different basic postures, breathing exercises and mantras. We will try these methods out together and each child will develop their own mantra to use on a daily basis.

Young Writers with Vero
We'll discuss different types of books (illustrated, chapter books, comics, novels, etc), different genres (love, mystery, spooky, autobiography, etc) and what it means to be a writer. We'll dive into the creative process and collectively, we'll come up with a short fictional story together. Children will learn the various parts of piecing together a story and leave with a better appreciation for the books they read at home.

We will take a virtual trip to the beach and learn how to bring awareness to the environment around us. Yogis will learn fun and strength building yoga poses coupled with their favorite Disney water tunes!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!with Vero
Reading of Veronica Green's book; Diary of a Plastic Bottle. Discussion about the effects of plastic on Earth's natural habitats. We'll learn about how to reduce our contact with single-use plastics and how to recycle properly with a recycling game. We'll end with a fun upcycled art project using bottle caps and crayons.
Materials: paper, glue, crayons (or colored pencils), a few markers, bottle caps (3 is enough, but gather up to 12 if you have them), kids scissors (optional)

Yogis will read "I am Yoga" together and practice the yoga postures illustrated in the book. We will conclude class by creating out own positive affirmation cards!

Children will learn basic form of exercises using their own bodies, such as push up and squats, as well as how to create a well-rounded work out plan.

Nature Art with Vero
Children will create their own nature paint-brushes using sticks and leaves. We'll paint on paper with our nature brushes and experiment painting with other natural textures such as sponges, pine cones, flowers and veggie scraps.
Materials: paper, paint, tape, sticks, leaves, any natural items with texture (flowers, pine cone, sponge, organic food scraps such as broccoli, mushroom, potato, etc.)

Mindfulness & the Senses with Keyla
Children will enjoy a kid's yoga book, Little Yogi Journey, and act out some of the simple poses in the book. We'll discuss what it means to live "mindfully" and stay in the present moment. We'll do an activity that brings attention to our senses (sight, sound, smell, taste & touch). We'll finish by discussing gratitude and making a hand-print shaped gratitude chart of things we are grateful for.
