Description
Oxford County, Future Oxford, Smart Energy Oxford and Oxford Community Energy Cooperative are inviting members of the community to visit site locations of renewable energy technology operating in Oxford County on Saturday, September 10, 2016 as part of the Oxford County Renewable Energy Gateway. Guests will have the opportunity to view different types of renewable technology up close and learn about their systems through a guided bus tour.
The tour starts and ends at the Quality Inn Hotel & Suites parking lot, the site of 8 Tesla superchargers. This tour will showcase the Tesla superchargers, electric vehicle charging, and solar photovoltaic (PV). Electric vehicles will also be on site, as well as the Sustainable Energy Expo (SEE) Trailer, which is equipped with a 1.5-kilowatt PV system. Guests will park at the Quality Inn Hotel & Suits and board the bus.
The tour will travel to the Nature Farm Solar Project in Burgessville, which features a 250 kW solar energy installation on a cattle facility. It will then stop at the Oxford Cattle Company Ltd., where guests will be shown the future pilot site for a fueling hub that combines selected blends of farm-sourced biomethane with pipeline natural gas. The development of this hub is the critical first step in bringing cleaner, environmentally friendly, cost-effective fuels to rural Ontario businesses.
The tour will conclude at Turbine 1 of the Gunn’s Hill Wind Farm, guests will have the opportunity to exit the bus and see a wind turbine from up-close. Refreshments will be provided on site and representatives from the building company, Senvion, and members of the Oxford Community Energy Cooperative will be present to answer questions on the technology and about the project.
The bus will depart from Gunn’s Hill Wind Farm and return to the Quality Inn Hotel & Suits. This tour will run every hour from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016.
Guests may still visit the Gunn’s Hill Turbine location on Friday September 9, 2016 and Sunday September 11, 2016 but there will be no bus tour on those days.
