This is not the first time my family has been affected by this disease. I lost my paternal grandfather, Herb, to the same disease 8 years ago. Through research, I have learned that every four seconds, someone around the globe is diagnosed with a form of dementia. After losing Zaida, I thought to myself, I need to do something to help.Dance has always been my greatest passion. What never fails to amaze me about dance is the power it has to connect people. It is a universal language that, as an art form, can be used to entertain, to express, to educate, and to heal.My paternal grandmother, Lee (whom I call Babs), suffers from the most well known form of dementia, Alzheimer's. A few months ago, during a visit from my father, she expressed to him, "I would really love to see Nicole dance." When he told me this story, I realized what I could do to help.
