Description
The MOBI Grand Challenge Hackathon is loosely modeled on the DARPA grand challenge for autonomous driving which captured the public imagination and launched the autonomous driving revolution. Unlike the DARPA challenge, vehicles won’t be required to navigate a course without a human driver. Instead, the MOBI Grand Challenge will focus on fulfilling MOBI’s purpose, which is to increase access and efficiency, reduce pollution and congestion, and to avoid accidents and save lives. The MOBI Grand Challenge explores vehicle’s ability to automate and perform critical functions needed to improve transportation in the machine economy.
MOBI has partnered with The Blockchain Society to run a worldwide virtual hackathon with the goal of creating mobility solutions. That make transport services more efficient, affordable, greener, safer, and less congested.
The challenge includes, but is not limited to exchanging data and payments with other vehicles and infrastructure; operating in a tokenized environment by registering assets and payments on a public or permissioned ledger; negotiating rights of way, access, and use of infrastructure in an ad hoc, cooperative, and distributed ecosystem; adjusting behavior to maximize efficiency from providing services, buying fuel, managing pollution, congestion and carbon footprint, etc. Winning teams will be expected to demonstrate how blockchains and related technologies - distributed ledgers, cryptography, tokens, and consensus mechanisms - can leverage the high-speed connections and computing power of future vehicles to make mobility safer, cleaner, faster, more efficient and accessible.
The MOBI Grand Challenge Hackathon will run from October 2018 to January 2019 beginning with a launch in New Mexico and culminating in finalist presentations and awards at the Munich event. The finalists will be recognized, receive awards in several categories, and be included in MOBI Announcements and related Press Releases.
