Description
When was the last time you visited Mission, Oregon and really took it in, not just stopped by for gas? This adventure will take you on the scenic route down the beautiful Cayuse Grade through the community of Cayuse on the Umatilla River then west towards Mission.
Our first stop will be at the base of the Blue Mountains, the site of the historic St. Andrew's Mission schoolhouse that now houses Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts. This nonprofit organization provides artistic opportunities for Native Americans through printmaking, weaving, bead working, and regalia making.
From there, we'll head to the Tribal Native Plant Nursery. Here, locally adapted plants are grown for use in habitat restoration and mitigation projects of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, nativescaping and xeriscaping. Native plants are available for sale.
We'll next go to Pendleton for lunch at the Sundown Grill, formerly Raphael's . Look forward to a terrific meal on their gorgeous patio. Lunch is no host.
After lunch we'll visit the Tamastslikt Cultural Institute. Museum admission is free for current members of the Fort Walla Walla Musem and NARM members Kirkman House Museum; $6 for all others. This admission fee is not included in our ticket prices.
